Insights and future directions for systems and complexity‐informed evaluation

With the increasing maturity of systems thinking and complexity science (STCS) within evaluation, this issue NDE provides case examples contemporary application. This article identifies themes across to identify emergent patterns opportunities for continued development evaluation practices that draw upon STCS. Each describes STCS its applications specific contexts. Our review cases identified three themes: (1) importance setting boundaries around what is included excluded from field in a evaluation; (2) using concepts theories enhance program theory, (3) broadly drawing support changes develop capacity organizations. While these implications show some promise informed they, more importantly, underscore need deeper engagement with methods while simultaneously remaining accessible evaluators.
